A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, where he was a member of the Rhode Island Alpha chapter of ΣAE, Dr. James D. C. Robinson was one of, if not the driving force behind the creation of Alabama Epsilon. Certainly, without his approval and relationship with then President Ralph Adams, Alabama Epsilon might have never happened. He was part of the installation ceremony.
Dr. Robbie served as Executive Vice President for Off-Campus Education and Assistant to the President from the early 70’s until Dr. Adams retirement in 1987. He is credited with creating one of the first international educational outreach programs for any University. Opening programs at a number of Military bases throughout Europe.
Prior to his roll at Troy, Dr. Robbie served 28 years in the United States Army Air Corps and US Air Force. He flew P-38 “Lightnings” in the Pacific Campaign during World War II where he was credited with 3 confirmed “kills” – although he was always adamant about two other enemy aircraft he had shot down, which would have made him an Ace. He served in Korea and in Vietnam as well.
Dr. Robbie was awarded the Legion of Merit, Navy Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal with four Clusters, Army and Air Force Commendation Medals. He was Area Commandant of ROTC programs covering five state and 20 universities, along with many other administrative duties during his tenure with the Air Force.
He passed away in 2008 at the age of 91.
Alabama Epsilon has a long history of brothers serving and defending our country. From Iraq – twice, to Kosovo, to Afghanistan and beyond. Brothers have represented in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard with honor and bravery (including at least one Bronze State with Valor).
